Appointed on July 29th, 2022, Pastor Peris Lester I brought his lifelong passion for ministry and deep commitment to community service to Phillips Temple Christian Methodist Episcopal Church. Hailing from Chicago, Illinois, Pastor Lester’s journey in faith began in his youth, influenced by his surroundings and a burgeoning love for Christ.
Educated in Chicago’s public schools, he furthered his academic pursuits at Lane College in Jackson, Tennessee, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree. He deepened his theological expertise with a Master of Divinity from The Phillips School of Theology in Atlanta, Georgia. Over the years, Pastor Lester has served in various capacities within the CME Church, ministering to diverse congregations in rural, urban, and metropolitan settings from Los Angeles to Fort Worth and Memphis. His impactful leadership has consistently fostered growth and unity within each community.
As a devoted father of three sons—Peris James II, Taymon Tariq, and Paxton Jude-Michael Lester—Pastor Lester lives by the motto: “Our children are only 40% of our population but are 100% of our future.” This belief shapes his visionary outlook on ministry and community engagement, focusing on holistic services that encompass spiritual, nutritional, and healthcare needs, particularly for underserved populations.
Pastor Lester’s approach to ministry is rooted in the example of Christ, who walked among the people, as depicted in John 11:54. He is committed to collaborating with ecumenical leaders across the cities he serves, ensuring access to essential resources and services for all, reinforcing his dedication to serving and uplifting diverse communities.
